India, China Hold First Strategic Economic Dialogue Post-Doklam

Han Jing, counsellor for the Department of Latin America and Caribbean, an auxiliary office in China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday reassured the country's regional partners that the ongoing friction between the world's two largest economies would not negate or slow China's commitments.

The tensions reflect the dueling nationalistic ambitions of Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

Xi said "Openness versus isolation and progress versus retrogression, humanity has a major choice to make". He indicated that China is willing to make concessions by easing restrictions on American cars, strengthening intellectual property rights, and opening its financial markets.

China's state media has followed Xi's tone, with the tabloid Global Times writing in an editorial that the mainland needed to "prepare for a possible military clash". Washington reports different figures that put the gap at a record $375.2 billion. "The China market may end up being something that is very big and profitable for the companies that are there". The fault is in implementation, with high levels of bureaucracy, court decisions applying on a provincial level rather than nationally and judges often having different interpretations of the laws. They flood our borders with unsafe drugs and stolen brand-name merchandise.

Regarding Mr. Linquan's April 11 op-ed, "China: Oregon will lose in USA trade war", his threats are unnecessary.

However, analysts say the battle will take a toll on growth. But, that's not all.

Earlier this month, China had announced fresh tariffs on soya bean imports from the U.S, as part of an unresolved trade spat between Beijing and Washington, on items worth over $100 billion.

China's response Friday appeared to be aimed at increasing domestic US pressure on Trump by making clear which exporters, including farm areas that voted for him in 2016, might be hurt.

Local Syrian reacts to airstrike on Damascus
Haley said. "The United States and its allies continue to demonstrate blatant disregard for worldwide law", he said. He claimed his use of the term was intentional and that he knew the "Fake News Media" would seize on his use of it.

President Trump says this is an untenable position to be in and, unlike, his predecessors, he is proposing to do something about it. The tariffs, if imposed, would target about 1,300 Chinese products, including industrial robots and telecommunications equipment.

USA efforts to boost exports of technology-based goods, begun under Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, conflict with China's plan for state-led development of global competitors in fields from robotics to electric cars. "He´s going to open it up, take down a lot of the trade barriers - maybe all of them", Trump told lawmakers on Thursday.

But economist Larry Kudlow, newly appointed head of the National Economic Council, was saying not so fast.

But since then, tensions between China and the island it views as a breakaway province have become strained under his successor, President Tsai Ing-wen. Kudlow pointed out that China has been targeting the USA for decades with little or no repercussion. He has made an analogy between President Trump's tariff declaration and the arms race with the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Good. Both moves are long overdue. "The result is the loss of U.S.jobs and spikes in the cost of consumer goods", according to Weber.

"When you´re $500 billion down, you can´t lose a trade war", he said. It could be, but I don't expect it at all.

First and foremost, China has less to lose in a short-term trade war. We want them to stop stealing our stuff.

"I think that generality still holds true today", he said.
