Avoid Eating Romaine Lettuce Again, Consumer Reports Says

Since March, 35 people have gotten sick, including 22 people who have been hospitalized, three of whom developed kidney failure.

Illnesses that occurred after March 27, 2018, might not yet be reported due to the time it takes between when a person becomes ill with E. coli and when the illness is reported.

The outbreak resulted in almost 36 people becoming ill to varying degrees, including 11 in Washington state. "This takes an average of two to three weeks". People in the previous outbreak were infected with a different DNA fingerprint of E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

The CDC continues to warn consumers against eating romaine lettuce from Yuma, Arizona that may be tainted with E.coli O157:H7. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, severe stomach cramps and vomiting. Twenty-six (93%) of 28 people interviewed reported consuming romaine lettuce in the week before their illness started.

200 million eggs recalled as FDA warns of salmonella risk
Further, officials said that eggs emerging from this farm were likely connected to 22 reported cases of salmonella infections . The plant number is P-105, with the Julian date range of 011 through 012 printed on either side of the carton or package.

The Centers for Disease Control says a multistate E. coli outbreak that has sickened almost three dozen people is linked to lettuce grown in Arizona.

"Most people reported eating a salad at a restaurant, and romaine lettuce was the only common ingredient identified among the salads eaten". As the number of people being infected by the disease has been increasing, health officials raised concerns about the consumption of the vegetable as no particular brand of lettuce has been identified so far.

Restaurants and stores are advised not to serve or sell chopped romaine lettuce. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared that outbreak - its source was not identified in the US - over in January. They include various items prepared with romaine lettuce and sold in our catering, restaurant and salad bar areas. Most people recover in five to seven days. There is no information to indicate that whole head romaine lettuce or hearts of romaine are involved in this outbreak. That's all the information the USA agency gives in that regard as it adds, "no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand has been identified". Our lawyers represent clients and families of children sickened with bacterial infections in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits against retailers, grocery stores, food processors, restaurants, daycare centers, schools, and others.
