200 million eggs recalled as FDA warns of salmonella risk

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said to date 22 people have been sickened by the eggs

More than 200 million eggs were recalled by a company after an outbreak of salmonella was traced to one of its farms in North Carolina, US.

Further, officials said that eggs emerging from this farm were likely connected to 22 reported cases of salmonella infections.

The recall was issued through an "abundance of caution" due to reported illnesses in the East Coast. The plant number is P-105, with the Julian date range of 011 through 012 printed on either side of the carton or package.

In addition, the company has voluntarily recalled over 206 million eggs. "The facility includes 3 million laying hens with a USDA inspector on-site daily", said the FDA.

More than 200 million eggs were recalled by an IN farm operation after a report of 22 illnesses IN connection with a salmonella outbreak.

Manchester City confirmed as champions as rivals United lose
The Portuguese manager said that City deserved their title and he had offered them his congratulations after the derby win. But at Old Traffrord Stadium at home, Man United failed to muster an equaliser to Jay Rodriguez's 73rd-minute strike.

The FDA says anyone who purchased the eggs should discard them or return them to where they were purchased for a refund.

"Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics", the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised.

The eggs all come from Rose Acre Farms in Indiana.

Eggs in the Vermont farm were sold to restaurants and also into supermarkets under several new names, including Coburn Farms, State Day Break, Food Lion, Glenview, Excellent worth, Nelms and Sun Shine Farms. The CDC said that in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Children are the most at-risk.

"Consumers with these eggs shouldn't eat them", FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb tweeted. The recall is equivalent to nearly 10 days production at the farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day.
