Scattered severe weather this afternoon, evening

The Piedmont might have to deal with some patchy frost in rural locations with lows in the low to mid-30s early Tuesday morning.

Our Tuesday weather maker will bring some cloudy and cooler weather along with the chance for some light rain and snow showers. Highs this afternoon will climb into the low 80s under a sun-filled sky. Almost 470 flights were canceled before crews were able to open one runway shortly after 10 p.m., according to a spokesman.

Widespread wind gust between 30 and 40 miles per hour are occurring, even outside of thunderstorms this afternoon. A weak cold front moves in Wednesday, impacting temperatures very little.

Verstappen concerned by engine performance gap to ferrari
Carlos Sainz took ninth in the second Renault, 0.287s off his teammate Hulkenberg, with Romain Grosjean tenth in the Haas. The Dutch youngster later apologised in person to Vettel and to his Red Bull team on social media.

Conditions range from severe weather in the lower Mississippi River Valley and southeast to blizzard conditions in the Northern Plains and upper Midwest. It still looks like the "greatest" threat of severe storms will be southwest of the Huntsville area through Central and South Alabama Saturday afternoon.

The veering profile may cause some cells in the storm line to rotate as well, increasing the damaging wind threat and creating the possibility of a few brief "spin-up" tornadoes even within the line. The Triad could get 1 to 2 inches of rain by the time the storms move out.

Rain and high mountain snow will continue Friday night with a slight chance of lingering showers Saturday morning. Models begin spreading frontal precip across far NW portions of the CWA Sunday morning. Into the weekend, our next storm system and cold front will approach. Be sure to check back for regular forecast updates, as this cold weather hangs tough this weekend. And the behind this weather system Monday, temperatures will be in the 40s early in the day and only warm into the upper 50s Monday afternoon!
