Bijapur will no longer be known as backward district: PM Modi

Referring to himself, the PM said, "If today this brother of yours, who is the son of a poor woman and hails from a backward community, is the Prime Minister of the country then it is because of Babasaheb". He also appealed to the people from the backward districts to join a mass movement with a different approach leveraging information technology for transformation. "We demand that you set a true example and prove that the current Indian government does care about the well-being and dignity of its children".

The prime minister was in Bijapur to inaugurate a health and wellness centre at the primary level, the first of 1.5 lakh such proposed centres at the village level across the country under the Ayushmaan Bharat scheme. "They have come from outside (referring to Naxal leaders from other states who are active in Chhattisgarh)", he said.

Mentioning that Bijapur used to be regarded as a backward area once, he said that the district has earned a recognition across the country due to the pace of development and by courtesy of central schemes.

They hide safely in the jungles. "Each district faces its own challenges, and therefore, a different strategy is required in each case", he said. The symbolic gesture was welcomed by a loud applause.

He was seen taking pictures with the prime minister inside a coach in which he travelled. PM Modi inaugurated a new rail line and a passenger train.

The lady was one of the thousands of women covered under the scheme launched more than a decade earlier to provide slippers to people engaged in collecting Tendu leaves in Chhattisgarh. He said it was Modi's love and affection for the state that he was leaving no stone unturned for the development of the state.
