Israeli troops kill Palestinian at Gaza border : Health Ministry

Force F-15 fighter jet releases flares during an aerial demonstration at a graduation ceremony for Israeli air force pilots at the Hatzerim air base in southern Israel

On April 6, photojournalist Yaser Murtaja, 30, was shot by Israeli forces while reporting on Palestinian protests at the Gaza-Israel border, Palestinian officials and witnesses said.

It exploded near an Israeli bulldozer on Wednesday.

In the preliminary findings, which were announced Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces said that soldiers heard in a video of the incident cheering the man's shooting acted inappropriately and will face a disciplinary hearing.

No Israelis have been injured during the demonstrations.

The statement did not give the location of the targets or the type of military fire used.

Israel has faced mounting criticism over its use of live fire, while the European Union and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have called for an independent investigation.

Israel holds Hamas responsible for all violence emanating from Gaza and stressed that it will not allow the border area to become a combat zone. No Israelis have been hurt. But Hamas stopped short of claiming him as one of its own, as Hamas has written on banners and posters for others killed on the border during recent protests.

Israel has said that Hamas is attempting to use the cloak of peaceful protests to launch terrorist attacks, pointing to incidents of violence along the border, including what it describes as attempts to plant explosives and one shooting incident.

Iran official threatens to destroy Israel if it continues 'childish game'
The target of the reported airstrike was the Tiyas air base - also known as the T-4 air base - outside Palmyra in central Syria. The strike has been attributed to Israel, but so far Israel has not confirmed that it was behind the attack.

Also on Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said there were "no naive people" in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

Not only does the headline seriously muddy what happened, it also primes readers to blame Palestinians for being massacred, by saying their protests "elicited" the massacre.

The Palestinians consider the eastern part of Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

A Hamas statement said Liberman's comments were contrary to the "facts on the ground" given that Murtaja was not filming with a drone Friday. There have been no Israeli casualties.

Calls for an independent investigation into the massacre were blocked by the USA veto in the UN Security Council.

But although it was widely labelled on social media as footage from these most recent protests, a spokesman for the Israeli Defence Forces said that the video was filmed on Friday December 22nd past year in an area adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

"Journalists are civilians, and security forces have a duty to ensure that they can work safely", said Sherif Mansour, Middle East coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists.
