Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018) start receiving Android 8.1 Oreo update

Nokia 7 Plus

HMD Global on Thursday started rolling out the latest Android Oreo update for Nokia 3 smartphones globally, including in India.

HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, lauds the device as "a breakthrough in accessible technology, delivering smartphone essentials, refreshingly familiar design and the reassuring quality of a Nokia". Nokia 3 is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6737 processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM. Which means, when sales begin from April 30, customers will receive the device running Android 8.1 out-of-the-box. Nokia 3 is backed by a 2,650 mAh battery, and it supports Micro USB (USB 2.0) for charging. Inherently coloured, the tough two-tone polycarbonate cover is ready to take on everyday knocks and bumps with its durable design. The update adds features like Picture-in-Picture mode, 60 new emojis as well as Android Instant apps, which will help optimise battery in the Nokia 3 by limiting background app use.

Tailored to devices with 1GB RAM or less, Android Oreo (Go edition) comes with a new range of apps from Google created to run faster while consuming less data.

Android 8.1 comes with numerous changes over Android 8.0. After choosing the "System", a user will be able to see the "About Phone" tab, select the "About Phone" tab and then the System update to download the latest Android version Android 8 Oreo.

Available in Warm Red and Ink Blue, the Nokia 1 retails from R999 (about US$82) through Cell C, MTN, Vodacom and leading retail stores.
