Wendy Williams says ideal storm led to talk show hiatus

Wendy Williams

Sharing her struggle with PEOPLE, 53-year-old Wendy revealed that she was first diagnosed with Graves disease - an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid - and hyperthyroidism nearly 20 years ago. "You love something one day and you forget about it the next and you replace it with something else". "I had a very productive three weeks off".

Upon being instructed to take almost a month off of work, Williams said she was a roller coaster of emotions. "Reset on everything. Reset on how I'm dealing with my health. And I went in February and that's where I found, whoa, your levels are way off", she shares with Robach. After the incident, she said she was overheated and dehydrated. 'Are you out of your mind? The audience gasped and Williams told them, "Oh, yes".

A few months later she announced that she would be taking some time away to rest, confirming that she was suffering with Graves' disease. I love your tomfoolery. "I do the show but there are hundreds of people who are the show, and they don't get the credit they deserve". He needs to be doing something, either with the kids like one of those funniest-home-video shows, or next to Kelly [Ripa] on the '[Live with] Kelly [and Ryan]' show.

Wendy Williams doesn't like a pity party, so spare her the anxious looks. I was resting, doctor's orders - rest, rest and more rest.

'American Idol' Contestant Awkwardly Brings Up Taylor Swift to Katy Perry
It's nice of Perry to respect Swift on a professional level, but clearly, there is no personal love between the two. The last time Perry spoke about the drama was on Australia's Today Show saying , "I love her, I always have".

"I pressed reset on my approach to everything in my life", she said. Wendy also suffers from vertigo, which she said was affecting her equilibrium.

'And other people thought that I was having a heart attack'.

Going through the menopause at the same time also meant that Wendy blamed her issues on the wrong health concern, as she explained: 'With the menopause, I wasn't pointing a finger to any particular thing. I have more important things to do. Speaking to Amy Robach, Williams shares that she missed three doctors' appointments with her endocrinologist. Weeks later, she almost fell again, and soon announced that she would be cancelling her appearances for three weeks to take care of he health. When she informed him it was "sweeps" he replied, "Do you want to be swept?"

"We as women, particularly if we have families. we take care of everybody but ourselves".
