Microsoft said the addition of more datacentre facilities means Azure now has the largest global presence of any public cloud provider.

"We see a lot of demand from small and medium businesses as well as large enterprises for these services, and local datacentres are the logical next step given the enormous opportunity".

"In areas like digital transformation, and the development of new intelligent services, our ambition is for the Microsoft Cloud to form a strategic part of the backbone for regional economic development".

Microsoft also is making Office 365 and Dynamics 365 available in more regions, offering users in-geo data residency in numerous 17 georgraphic regions in which these services are available. Its Azure cloud is now in 42 regions globally. Microsoft, which now has 42 Azure cloud regions, is racing Amazon Web Services to add new areas as both companies aim to store information and applications closer to customers. Etisalat is also providing consulting, migration and managed services to ensure the smooth transition of business customers to the cloud.

Salvador Anglada, Chief Business Officer, Etisalat says, "This alliance reinforces the UAE 2021 vision to become one of the top knowledge-based economies in the world". Approximately 4,000 start-ups have been supported through programs like the Microsoft Virtual Academy and Microsoft's Cloud Society initiative.

Microsoft today revealed its plans to expand its cloud services in Europe and the Middle East. Microsoft said that they will be opening new datacenter in Switzerland (specifically in Geneva and Zurich) and the United Arab Emirates.
