Vikings have 'reached out' to Drew Brees' agent

Are Saints in danger of losing Drew Brees to the... Vikings

Quarterback Drew Brees is a New Orleans institution as the face of the Saints, but other teams have reportedly inquired about his availability.

And now we're getting reports of other teams reaching out to Brees.

Brees, 39, is expected to return to the New Orleans Saints.

Monday's deadline isn't that big of a deal, really. In other words, they need to work out a deal and fast. Brees is the top free agent available, and a team looking to win right now should be looking to win with Brees, a first-ballot Hall of Famer who has missed only one game to injury in the 12 years since he joined the Saints.

India grounds 11 Indigo, GoAir jets after engine shutdowns
The corrective action has been approved and we have already begun to deliver production engines with the upgraded configuration.

But Wednesday is a serious deadline not only because Brees will be free to sign elsewhere. Also, because of the complex way his contract was structured to help the Saints' salary cap in previous years, if Brees' contract voids it will count as $18 million in dead cap space for the Saints in 2018, according to Nola.com. And then get to choose when they exit. He was named MVP when the Saints beat the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

It would ultimate still be a major upset if Brees leaves the Saints, but there's always a chance negotiations could sour. While Brees leaving the comfort of Sean Payton's offense is still unlikely, the Saints are playing a unsafe game by letting it get to this point.

When it finally does get done, chances are Brees' contract will look an bad lot like that last extension he signed just four days before the 2016 season opener. He's missed only one game over the last eight years. But it included only one new year of guaranteed money. Graham never matched his prolific production with Brees in Seattle, but he's coming off a 10-TD campaign in which he finished by playing his best ball as a Seahawk.

There's no reason to expect anything different this time around - even though both sides are adding a little last-minute drama to the equation.
