Metropolitan Opera terminates relationship with James Levine over 'sexually abusive' conduct

Met opera fires conductor after sexual misconduct probe

The Metropolitan Opera in New York City on Monday announced on Monday it fired famed conductor James Levine after the conclusions of an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against him.

In a statement on its website, the Met said it was "terminating" its relationship with Levine as Music Director Emeritus and artistic director of its young artist program.

It has brought forward the appointment of Levine's successor, youthful French Canadian Yannick Nezet-Seguin, who will become music director with the upcoming season.

Mr. Levine's career was upended following reports last December involving.

A leadership transition was already underway at the Met, following Levine's retirement as music director in 2016. His abusive conduct during his Met tenure has yet to be revealed in print.

Average retail gas prices continue to fall in Baton Rouge
Gas prices in metro Detroit are continuing to rise with higher than usual demand for this time of year, according to AAA Michigan. In Tampa, prices remained even lower at $2.41 a gallon, down 7.0 cents per gallon from last week's $2.48 a gallon.

At the time, the Met indicated that there were multiple allegations against Levine.

"The investigation also found that any claims or rumors that members of the Met's management or its Board of Directors engaged in a cover-up of information relating to these issues are completely unsubstantiated", it read. Met officials said they were launching an investigation. Most recently, an article in the Boston Globe revealed a cult-like group of acolytes who allegedly submitted to him musically and sexually, to the degree of distancing themselves from family and friends. He alleged that the much-older Levine fondled his penis when he was a teenager and masturbated naked in front of him, describing hundreds of incidents.

The New York Times subsequently reported similar accounts from two other men accusing Levine of sexual misconduct.

"Based on recent accounts in the media regarding James Levine, Ravinia has severed all ties with the conductor who served as music director of the festival from 1973 through 1993".
