You know things are not going well on the injury front in Boston when the "good" news is Kyrie Irving is only going to miss a few games with knee soreness. Smart had his thumb taped up and returned to finish the game.

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has suffered a torn tendon in his right thumb and will be out indefinitely, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Smart played through the injury on Sunday but it sounds like the injury is worse than it initially appeared. With the injury to Smart, the Celtics bench, which has been great lately when healthy, will be missing two of its key contributors.

Novak Djokovic's struggles continue with Indian Wells defeat
Retaining the world No. 1 ranking is the furthest thing from Roger Federer's mind as he bids to defend his Indian Wells crown. Daniel's reward is a third-round match with Leonardo Mayer after his opponent Kei Nishikori pulled out through illness.

It remains unclear just how much time Smart will miss, but this is another blow to the Celtics.

Smart scored 20 points with eight assists and seven rebounds Sunday in a loss to the Pacers. As of Monday afternoon, they had not learned whether the guard will need surgery. Smart is averaging 10.2 points per game for the Celtics, and he is their best on-ball perimeter defender.

Those numbers ballooned to 7.8 points and 5.3 rebounds since the All-Star break. With Kyrie Irving (thumb) day-to-day and Jaylen Brown dealing with a concussion, there could be a lot of Terry Rozier on Wednesday versus the Washington Wizards.
