Yankees sign Neil Walker for 2nd base help | What it means

Yankees agree to deal with Neil Walker

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Yankees have signed infielder Neil Walker, pending a physical. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Walker will make about $5 million this season.

Walker started out the 2017 season with the New York Mets but was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers at the non-waiver trade deadline.

Back injuries robbed him of a consistent, productive, and possibly long-term stint with the Mets as he was just one of many notable names sidelined due to health issues. It could be one of the better bargain signings of the offseason if Walker can stay healthy.

Lions To Meet With DeMarco Murray, Jonathan Stewart
The Detroit Lions are reportedly meeting with two possible running back candidates on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter . Both running backs are on the wrong side of 30, and likely looking to Detroit as their last chance at winning a starting role.

Walker recently told the New York Times that he had been close to signing with the Yankees, but the team's trade for Brandon Drury halted momentum. The 32-year-old hit.265 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs last year for the Mets and Milwaukee, who acquired him August 12.

He proved his versatility on the infield by making 17 starts at first base, 95 starts at second base and four starts at third base between the Mets and the Brewers last season. The switch-hitter could feast on the short porch in right field to add another perspective 25-plus home-run bat to the middle of the Yankees order that already includes Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius.
