NC unemployment rate stuck again in January at 4.5 percent

Manufacturing jobs were up by more than 3,100 in January.

The state reported that the number of people working in SC in January was again above 2.2 million.

Data released by the state Commerce Department on Monday show North Carolina's jobless rate only matched the national average in August, when both were at 4.4 percent.

Employment in Maryland mirrored the national trend, with the USA unemployment rate in January unchanged from the previous month at 4.1 percent.

The number of people classified as unemployed declined to a seasonally adjusted 96,678, the lowest figure since February 2000. The size of the local labor force also declined in January, but there were 231 more people counted as unemployed than there were in January.

"Wisconsin workers are benefitting from a strong labor market, demonstrated by our record low unemployment rate for the month of January, and a new all-time high for number of individuals employed in the state of Wisconsin", said state Department of Workforce Development secretary Ray Allen. Lincoln's preliminary rate rose three-tenths of a point to hit 2.7 percent, compared with 2.4 percent in December.

In the six counties on the Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area unemployment grew to 3.6 percent, up six-tenths of a point from December.

In February, the USA economy added 313,000 new payroll jobs, the biggest single monthly increase since July 2016.
