Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech "delighted with unbelievable" milestone of 200 clean sheets

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech

Arsenal ended a run of three successive English Premier League defeats with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Watford yesterday.

It was a moment of sweet vindication for the hosts after the Watford captain questioned the courage of the Gunners last October following the Hornets' win over them at Vicarage Road. For moments we played very well and for moments we had to stick together and suffer.

It was a good day for Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech, the latter becoming the first goalkeeper to keep 200 clean sheets, after he saved a penalty in the match.

"But the most important thing is when the team wins".

It would seem that The Gunners will need to focus on the Europa League for any chance of returning to Europe's elite competition next season.

Watford won the penalty when 2-0 down but were unable to turn the game around after Cech produced a fine save.

"I'm feeling really better; in January I didn't play a lot so it was hard when I came here, but I'm feeling better and I try to do my best of course for the team and for the club", Aubameyang told BBC Africa Sport.

INDW vs AUSW, 1st ODI: Mithali Raj-less India collapse at 200
As dominant as Australia were with the bat, it was their bowlers that snotted the life out the Indian line-up. The most successful Australian bowler, though, was Jess Jonassen , who returned impressive figures of 4/30.

Cech's penalty save from pantomime villain Deeney, his first spot-kick stop in the Premier League since February 2011.

And the striker was the target of yet more gleeful goading from the Arsenal faithful when Mkhitaryan made sure of the three points with 13 minutes left to play, Karnezis failing to adjust in time to deal with the strike.

"We took 18 games to get to nine clean sheets, I got to 199 and then had to wait 11 games to get another clean sheet", said the Czech.

The Gunners were reminded of his comments before the game and Wenger says they were a factor.

Wenger, 68, signed a two-year contract extension at the end of last season to take his tenure in charge well into a third decade.

"Overall it gets us out of that negative spirit that we were in", he said.

Cech was at fault for both goals as Arsenal lost 2-1 at the Amex Stadium in their last top-flight outing, responding on social media after the game by taking full responsibility for the defeat. But, I would like to personally congratulate him for a remarkable achievement. "We are not so far to the end of the season so, any injuries, you lose them for the rest of the season".
