Detroit police officer killed in crash on Michigan Avenue

The Detroit police chief says it happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning at a Detroit intersection

A 25-year-old Detroit police officer has died following a crash during a training exercise on the city's west side.

Crews tried to save his life, but it was too late.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Weathers was participating in a training exercise when he was hit by a vehicle and rushed to Henry Ford Hospital.

Our hearts go out to Officer Weathers' family and to and his fellow officers at this very hard time.

After two weeks of incidents that caused death or injuries to his officers, a deadly auto crash has forced the department to take measure of the danger of their jobs. It's not clear what caused the crash, he said.

The second vehicles's occupants suffered minor or no injures.

Text of Trump Jr. Letter: 'You Are an Awful, Awful Person'
Trump's wife , Vanessa , was taken to a hospital on Monday after opening the envelope in her mother's Manhattan apartment. A spokesperson speaking on behalf of the police read the letters to reporters from NBC on the 13th of February.

"Unfortunately, they became victims as well", Barren said.

Craig said they believe the light was red at the time Weathers went through the intersection, striking the other vehicle.

The death comes after the loss of Officer Glenn Doss last month and the injuries of three officers during a 14-hour standoff earlier this week. Officer Glenn Doss Jr. died after being shot while responding to a domestic violence call January 24.

"I am numb." Craig said. He has a very young daughter that was traveling to meet with him.

The off-duty school officer is married to one of the female victims, police said.

"He was a phenomenal officer", said Craig. Weathers was awarded the Medal of Valor for his efforts. "For a young officer to respond that way, he relied on his training and instincts. he truly is a hero and one of Detroit's finest", said Craig. "He clearly expressed an intention to do harm; he clearly expressed intention to hurt police officers".
