The BBC is collaborating with 14-18 NOW on major projects and with partners such as Imperial War Museums, Arts and Humanities Research Council, Wellcome Trust and others across the U.K. Through live events, presenter-led series, testimony-driven documentaries, digital content and a range of collaborations, the Year of History programming will explore the political, cultural and social shifts that ultimately set the agenda for the next 100 years and shaped the world as we know it today.

The film, which combines the archive footage with audio from the BBC archives, will have its premiere as part of the BFI London Film Festival this year.

"I started to think about what could be done to that footage with the computer technology that we have now, to restore it beyond anything we've ever seen before", he said.

"We can make this grainy, flickery kind of sped-up footage look like it was shot in the last week or two", the director says, though you won't have to take his word for it. "It's so sharp and clear now".

New Zealand director Peter Jackson is swapping fantasy for fiction, this time bringing to life old war time footage where the faces of real soldiers "just jump out at you". The one-off film will not only focus on the First World War, but will look at how British soldiers from conflicts like the Falklands, Afghanistan and Iraq are suffering a mental health crisis. It's the human beings that were actually there.

Organizers Estimate Women's March Crowd At 300000
Los Angeles MayorEric Garcetti estimated the crowd in the city at 600,000, and said it was largest march in the country. Crowd estimates for the march in Washington were down from last year's gathering.

Jackson and his team combed through around 600 hours of audio interviews with veterans, recorded in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, for the film. "We have made a movie which shows the experience of what it was like to fight in this war, not strategy [or] battles", said Jackson, who discusses the film in the video below.

And in Shell Shocked, TV historian Dan Snow will explore 100 years of war-induced post-traumatic stress disorder.

The project, announced in Britain yesterday, is among dozens of artworks commissioned to commemorate the centenary of the final year of the 1914-18 war, Associated Press reports.

Danny Boyle, the director who created the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony will invited communities across the United Kingdom to come together for a nationwide event on November 11, 2018, Armistice Day.

The women who carried on running houses and bringing up children during wartime will be marked in Great And Tiny War, in which a house in Newcastle is transformed into a "multimedia installation".
