Tim Southee hails Colin Munro's consistency as New Zealand continue good run

Pakistan's Shoaib Malik falls to the ground after being hit in the head during the ODI match against New Zealand

The T20I series represents a chance for the tourists to salvage some pride but they face an uphill battle against a rampant New Zealand side, who are now ranked No.1 in the ICC T20I rankings.

WELLINGTON:Colin Munro ensured New Zealand continued a stellar home summer on Monday when they thrashed Pakistan by seven wickets with 25 balls to spare in the opening Twenty20 match in Wellington.

But the scenario looks even further intimidating due to the fact that New Zealand are occupying the top position in T20I Rankings followed by Pakistan.

Pakistan , hoping for a change of fortune with the change of format after being swept in the ODI series, were in immediate trouble after being sent into bat.

Earlier, New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan in five-match ODI series, and widened their winning streak to 11 matches in 50-over format.

He was replaced by France worldwide Samuel Umtiti, who returned after a long injury layoff. Messi grabbed his second of the game 10 minutes from the end.

For Tim Southee, the stand-in captain after a late decision to rest Kane Williamson who has a minor injury, everything went according to plan. "They bowled very well with the new ball", he said. Out of six Pakistan have won just two T20Is, losing four.

Pakistan (probables): Fakhar Zaman, Umar Amin, Babar Azam, Sarfraz Ahmed (captain and wicketkeeper), Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Aamer Yamin, Rumman Raees and Mohammad Amir.

Southee ended with figures of 3-13 in his four overs and Rance, playing in only his third T20I, ended with 3-26 from four overs while left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner took 2-15.

He managed to get off the mark in the following over but only lasted nine balls before he became Southee´s second victim and was gone for seven.
