South Korea's 'Peace Olympics' meet backlash at home

Scott Hamilton to return as commentator at 2018 Olympics

Heavy security has been deployed for the North Korean delegation on a visit in South Korea ahead of its planned participation in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

A North Korean delegation inspecting venues for its art performances for next month's PyeongChang Winter Olympics visited candidate sites Monday, on what is expected to be the final leg of its two-day stay here.

First, Bach posed with IOC members from North and South Korea Um Chang and Seung Min Ryu, National Olympic Committee leaders Il Guk Kim (DPRK) and Kee Heung Lee (ROK), PyeongChang 2018 President Hee Beom Lee, Winter Olympic Federations (AIOWF) President Gian-Franco Kasper and PyeongChang 2018 Coordination Commission chair Gunilla Lindberg.

Hyon Song Wol, the photogenic leader of Kim Jong Un's hand-picked Moranbong Band, has made two excursions across the Demilitarized Zone as a negotiator and advance team leader working out the details of Kim's surprise offer for the North to participate in the Pyeongchang Games.

Through an interview with a US expert, the paper stressed that pressure on the North shouldn't be weakened and that inter-Korean talks should focus on Pyongyang's nuclear program.

Hyon has been the subject of intense South Korean media attention since she attended last week's talks at the border that struck an agreement on the 140-memer Samjiyon art troupe's two performances - one in Seoul and the other in Gangneung, where some Olympic events will take place.

Seoul police plan to investigate the protesters, Yonhap news agency reported.

He said, "I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy" and he thought he had a great time while working with her. There were more calls for change by women in Hollywood at the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.

As she and the delegation arrived at a Seoul train station before boarding a bus to the sites, around 50 protesters shouted slogans against North Korea and waved South Korean and American flags as she passed.

But it has become harder to get South Koreans excited for unified teams and joint marches when North Korea's increasingly aggressive weapons tests and the South's own evolvement as an economy and society continue to erode the public's enthusiasm for reunification.

Under a deal brokered by the International Olympic Committee, the two Koreas will field their first unified Olympic team, in women's hockey, and have their athletes march together under the joint flag depicting their peninsula during the February 9 opening ceremony. But he said that as the North has chose to participate in the Olympics, Seoul has become confident that the event will be conducted peacefully.

"We didn't really have a lot of say in it".

Seoul's government and the organisers hope that the Games, which they have promoted as the "Peace Olympics", can ease tensions that soared to new heights in recent months. South Korean broadcaster YTN ran a report revealing Hyon ate a dish called fish hangover soup for breakfast.

The talks between North and South Korea on the Olympics have brought some respite from the standoff over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes.

International Olympic Committee international relations director Pere Miro greeted each of the delegates as they arrived in a parade of luxury sedans over the course of an hour, with IOC President Thomas Bach the first to arrive at 8:45 sharp. While many at Seoul Station were caught unawares at her arrival, many individuals expressed surprise and curiosity regarding the North Korean celebrity.
