Mo'Nique Urges Netflix Boycott, Claims Race And Gender Pay Disparity

Mo'Nique Urges Netflix Boycott, Claims Race And Gender Pay Disparity

"Whoa. I'm glad u shed some light on what Monique was talking about with Netflix", said one person. Sykes claims that Netflix offered her $500,000 for a comedy special while other stand-up stars like white female comedian Amy Schumer and Dave Chappelle were given $13 million and $20 million.

According to The New York Post's Page Six, the comedian is making a total of $60 million for delivering three comedy specials to the streaming company in 2017. Mo'Nique said she felt it was a low offer considering Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle all made millions of dollars for their Netflix comedy specials.

The Oscar-winning actress said executives told her that they believed their offer is "what Mo'Nique will bring".

"Is that not Amy Schumer's résumé?" she added. "Why shouldn't I get what the legends are getting?"

The streaming service, which is now airing a Mo'Nique special called I Coulda Been Your Cellmate, has not addressed the star's claims.

Women march against Trump worldwide
In Los Angeles, organizers are predicting thousands of people, including state officials and celebrities, will march to City Hall. Organizers focused on voter registration and encouraging citizens to elect Democrats in November's midterm elections.

"@MoWorldWide, thank you for speaking out", Sykes tweeted. "Please stand with me in this boycott of Netflix". I was offended, but found another home.

Netflix was reached for comment and said they do not speak out about contract negotiations.

Mo'Nique, whose 2007 standup show "I Could've Been Your Cellmate" is now airing on Netflix, has been outspoken in the past about discrimination issues in Hollywood. Others on social media suggested that Mo'Nique take the money because she has struggled to gain prominent roles over the past few years.

The actress and comedian has previously been about issues involving pay imbalance and her status in the industry, telling the Hollywood Reporter in 2015 that producer Lee Daniels had informed her she'd been "blackballed" in the entertainment business.
