How does Trump's approval rating compare to other Presidents — IN Focus

US President Donald Trump

The recent poll had the President's approval rating at just 37 percent, far lower than his predecessors. Although nonwhite women "only" favor Democratic candidates by a margin of 53 percentage points (10 points less than the margin by which nonwhite women voted for Clinton over Trump), white women support Democrats over Republicans by 12 points.

The New York Times/Survey Monkey poll pegged support for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act at 46 percent, with 49 percent disapproving. On the other hand, 60 percent said the measure favored the rich.

In that case, 57 percent said it was good for the country that the health care law remained on the books, while 35 percent said it was a bad thing.

White House says Trump focused on minimizing shutdown harm
Trump, who regularly disrupted negotiations in recent weeks, had been a relatively subdued player in the weekend debate. Senate Democrats blocked a House-passed temporary funding bill to reopen the government through February 16.

By 87 percent to 11 percent, Americans said the so-called dreamers should be allowed to remain the U.S. Trump revoked protections from deportation for the immigrants, giving Congress until March 5 to pass legislation to allow them to stay. Over 60 percent of U.S. nationals, in particular, oppose building a wall along the USA border with Mexico, Sputnik reported. The president is seeking USA taxpayer funds to fund the barrier even though he pledged that Mexico would pay for it. This is twice as large a gap as existed between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, one that is nearly entirely attributable to the shift in white women's sentiments toward the GOP.

However, more respondents, 38 percent, still have an unfavorable opinion of the plan.

The poll results have a margin of sampling error of 3.5 points; the poll was conducted by landline and cellular telephone in English and Spanish among a random national sample of 1,005 adults and 846 voters Jan.15-18, ABC News said.
