The murder of Pradyuman Thakur, a Class 2 Gurgaon student, in September a year ago shook the nation, with parents demanding better security systems and greater accountability from schools.

A Class 12 student of a private school in Haryana has been detained for allegedly shooting dead the principal onSaturday, officials said. "The principal had informed him two-three times in the past week that he would not be able to attend the pre-board exam due to poor attendance", school director Vimal Kamboj said. A senior police officer said that "School staff, students, and teachers caught the student while he was trying to escape and handed him over to police".
