Three families lose loved ones to an explosion near Calvert City

Jerome Smith, 56, of Thibodaux, Louisiana; and Quentin Stewart, 41, of Opelousas, Louisiana, were identified Friday by the Marshall County, Kentucky, coroner, WPSD-TV reported.

An explosion rocked a tugboat while it was docked for repairs in Kentucky, killing three people and injuring several others Friday, authorities said. The boat is owned by Smithland Towing.

KSP says they were requested shortly after for investigation.

Fix work was in progress on the tugboat when the explosion occurred, Cash said, but he didn't immediately know what type of work was underway. They say the workers on the site of the explosion were from First Marine, Four Rivers Marine Coating, Hutco and Thermal Control.

The victims' injuries ranged from non-life threatening to life-threatening, officials said.

He said victims are now being treated for injuries ranging from minor to critical.

Cash called the coordination between the multiple law enforcement, fire, rescue and medical agencies "seamless".
