Lindsey Vonn reignites Olympic hopes with 79th World Cup win

Italy's Sofia Goggia beats US favourite to ski world cup win

Lindsey Vonn and Jackie Wiles celebrate their downhill podium performance in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy Sunday.

Wiles, 25, qualified for her second straight Olympic team after bursting onto the U.S. Ski Team in by winning the U.S. downhill title at Copper Mountain in Colorado in 2013 and 2014.

She won on Saturday by 0.92 seconds from Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather to notch her 79th career victory.

Shiffrin made her third podium in three downhills this season. The overall World Cup leader now by almost 1,000 points, Shiffrin finished seventh on Saturday. "I didn't make any big mistakes like yesterday", said Vonn, who finished second in Friday's downhill after an error midway down.

She raced a super-G at Cortina previous year, finishing fourth, but skipped the downhill there.

The success also saw her break Elisabeth Goergl's record as the oldest woman to win a World Cup downhill, although the Austrian still holds the mark for the oldest victor of any World Cup race after triumphing in the Super-G in 2014 at 33 days, 301 days. "I don't know how South Korea is going to go but it's a really good sign".

Knicks Hesitant to Go After Kemba Walker
With the February 8 trade deadline approaching, Kemba Walker has quickly emerged as the biggest name on the market . Wojnarowski recently reported on ESPN Radio that there is no truth to rumors that Davis could be dealt to Boston.

Wiles, meanwhile, reached her first podium in a year and only the second of her career.

"Last year, I had a pretty good super-G result, but to race in the downhill this year has been really exciting", Shiffrin said at the post-race news conference. "A little scary at the bottom, but I kept is rolling and it came together".

Vonn's US teammate Jacqueline Wiles finished third, 0.98 behind, for her second career podium result. "For me, February is the most important thing". "I learned a lot from the first training run and the second training run, so in the race today I could be aggressive".

Mancuso joined the U.S. Ski Team at the same time as Vonn.

The 22-year-old - competing for the first time in the downhill in Cortina - finished on the podium Friday behind Italy's Sofia Goggia and fellow American Vonn, who paid for a mistake in her run. Shiffrin leads with 1,441 points and Goggia has 570. Vonn and Shiffrin have also qualified for the Olympics in super-G, and Shiffrin has qualified in giant slalom and slalom, too.

It's a glorious day to be a US women's downhill skier.
