Google Search will start ranking faster mobile pages higher in July

The latest signal that will soon be factored in when ordering mobile Search results is page speed, though there are some key caveats.

As important as speed will become, Google says it can be superseded by query intent. The search giant attributed the change to its users caring about the speed of a webpage.

With the new Speed Update, faster sites will get better ranking on mobile search, and Google says the update will "only affect pages that deliver the slowest experience to users".

This is not the first time that page speed has been used as a signal on Google, to be clear - that's been the case for some time on desktop searches, the company notes. It applies the same standard to all pages, regardless of the technology used to build the page.

Cardinal in Spotlight abuse case dies in Rome aged 86
The posts were stepping stones to his becoming the spiritual leader of Boston's large and influential Catholic community. Born Nov. 4, 1931, in Mexico, Law completed his education from Harvard in 1953 and immediately entered the seminary.

Google says it expects the speed update, set to take effect in July, will only affect "a small percentage of queries", but given the number of Google searches that happen on a daily basis, it could have a significant impact on search.

Alongside the reassurance, Google also encouraged content creators to make a greater effort in optimising the performance of their websites, referring to its Lighthouse, Chrome User Experience Report and PageSpeed Insights as useful tools in helping them do so.

Google's Search ranking algorithm takes into account a number of factors when ordering results.
