Facebook to examine claims of Russian Federation interference in Brexit vote

In a letter to Damian Collins, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee, Facebook's head of policy in the UK, Simon Milner, said the social media giant would now search for "clusters engaged in coordinated activity around the Brexit referendum" which appear to have originated in Russian Federation.

"We are committed to making all reasonable efforts to establish whether or not there was coordinated activity similar to that which has been found in the U.S.", Facebook wrote in a letter to Damian Collins, the lawmaker who chairs the committee.

Mr Collins' committee released a letter from Facebook's United Kingdom policy director Simon Milner on Wednesday, in which the company promised to look further than the "cluster" of accounts connected to the American election. Facebook said that more than 126 million users in America saw inflammatory political ads bought by the Internet Research Agency, a Russian-backed internet troll farm, during the 2016 U.S. campaign.

In response to a request from a committee of United Kingdom lawmakers, Facebook said it was looking to see whether there were coordinated attempts at interference that it hadn't previously identified.

"They are best placed to investigate activity on their platform", he said in a statement.

So far, there have been 46 lab-confirmed flu deaths in the state of Washington for the 2017-18 season, which began in October. It is very important for young children, older adults and others at high risk for complications from flu to get vaccinated.

Facebook is expanding a United Kingdom investigation into possible interference by Russian Federation ahead of the country's 2016 election to exit the European Union, after facing pressure from lawmakers who were unsatisfied with an earlier probe by the social media company.

Facebook has widened its investigation into possible Russian interference in the European Union referendum.

Simon Milner, a policy director at Facebook, said work would be carried out promptly to see if "there was coordinated activity similar to that which was found in the U.S".

Mr Collins welcomed Facebook's promise to expand their investigation and said he would "look forward to reviewing their findings".

In the May 2017 French Presidential elections, Facebook suspended 30,000 accounts linked to fake news, disinformation, and spam prior to the elections.
