LG Baijal nods approval for AAP's 'Quality Healthcare' scheme

Delhi Assembly

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved the doorstep delivery of government services.

The scheme had become another point of contention between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government and the Lt. Governor, after Baijal asked for couple of changes in the scheme. "Thank u so much sir".

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal assured Baijal that the government will simultaneously work to strengthen the system for "on-line" delivery of services and both systems of providing services to the public by "Mobile Sahayaks" and through "Internet Kiosks" that will be complementary to each other.

So far, "more than 12,000 people" have availed the scheme, on being referred from Delhi government hospitals, mohalla clinics and polyclinics a year ago, the government said.

Rebutting the claim, Baijal had said that he "never advised to exclude middle classes from the scheme" and "income criteria was suggested on the basis of recommendations of Planning and Finance Department".

This was, however, opposed by the government. According to the government, more than 12,000 people benefitted from it between March and December 2017. "We can not differentiate between the poor and rich while providing medicine to them for their wellness", Mr. Jain had said.

Under this scheme, the government is now facilitating 52 specified surgeries free of cost at private hospitals in Delhi/NCR.

The specified surgeries include heart bypass, cataract surgery and 17 types of kidney operations.

Patients can avail the services at private hospitals in Delhi/NCR.
