Trump's remark causes concern immigration deal out of reach

DACA | HuffPost

"Repeated rhetoric of this sort by the occupant of the White House is a disgrace to our nation".

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said the comments were "beneath the dignity of the presidency" and Trump's desire for more immigrants from countries like Norway was "an effort to set this country back generations by promoting a homogenous, white society".

"What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made", Trump tweeted.

Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden tweeted, "It's not how a president should speak".

The result was a surreal scene on Friday.

President Donald Trump offered a partial denial in public but privately defended his extraordinary remarks disparaging Haitians and African countries. Mr. Trump ignored the queries.

Much depends on the willingness of both parties to make some hard compromises in exchange for the things each hopes to see in a final immigration package.

The Denver Post has reached out to the other members of Colorado's congressional delegation and will update this story as they respond.

Despite not having Trump's sign-off, the bipartisan group negotiating the agreement is pushing forward. On Twitter, he wrote that "this was not the language used" and denied that he had said "anything derogatory about Haitians".

A shutdown later this month would mark the first time since these attorney general opinions that the government has shut down under a single-party White House and Congress.

Caribbean legislators join outrage over Trump's reported 'racist' remarks
Even war-torn South Sudan weighed in, with President Salva Kiir's spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny slamming the comments as "outrageous". In a statement after Trump's comments were first reported, the White House did not deny them .

The group used the "bird-dog" approach-waiting for Congress members to come out of voting.

But as Cuellar pointed out, border security doesn't mean a wall stretching from Brownsville to San Diego.

Immigration talks emerged as Democrats pushed for the federal government to provide some kind of legal protection for immigrants who came to the United States as undocumented minors. They have known Trump's intentions since he described some Mexicans as "rapists", "criminals", "drug dealers", and "bad hombres".

CASSIDY: It is about border security. "[The border wall] was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and United States of America would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly".

But the main impetus for the deal is the fate of the Dreamers.

U.S District Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California ruled Tuesday that the program must continue and those already approved for DACA protections and work permits must be allowed to renew them before they expire.

Americans must face the fact that whatever else he is, whatever other agenda he carries, Trump harbors troubling racist sentiments that are jeopardizing the well-being of people of color, emboldening racists and, with his latest remarks, triggering worldwide alarm and disgust.

Some Democrats seized on Trump's slur to suggest he is anti-immigrant.

Goodlatte, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced the bill alongside Republican leaders of several other House committees and subcommittees related to immigration and national security.

Eventually, Trump is going to need to decide how he actually feels about protecting Dreamers: Is it the urgent necessity that he called on Congress to pass, or an odious concession that is only acceptable when paired with a restrictionist revolution in American immigration policy?
