Texans to hire Bills exec Brian Gaine as GM

Don Bosco Prep grad to be named general manager of Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have a new man in charge - and it is one with significant New Jersey ties.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Texans are expected to hire Bills VP of player personnel Brian Gaine as their GM. He interviewed for the same position with the Rams (2012), Jets (2013), Dolphins (2014), Eagles (2015), Bears (2015), Bills (2017) and 49ers (2017) prior to landing the gig with the Texans.

Smith has taken an extended leave of absence to be with his wife, who has breast cancer.

The formula is calculated by looking at companies that have a high earnings yield as well as a high return on invested capital. Shareholder yield has the ability to show how much money the firm is giving back to shareholders via a few different avenues.

Before going to Buffalo, Gaine was with the Texans for three seasons serving as director of pro personnel and director of player personnel under Smith.

Gaine has 19 years of National Football League personnel experience and has been a sought-after interviewee for GM jobs in the recent past. After five years in NY, he worked with the Cowboys from 2005-2007 and then with the Dolphins from 2008-2013. It was the program's last state title until the Ironmen's run of dominance began in the early 2000s under coach Greg Toal. The Texans struggled to a 4-12 record this year but should return to relevance quickly with J.J. Watt and Deshaun Watson coming back from injuries.

Gaine was considered as the front-runner from the start because of his familiarity with the organization and how much respect the Texans have for him, including owner Bob McNair, vice chairman Cal McNair, president Jamey Rootes and O'Brian, all of whom were on the search committee with Jed Hughes from Korn Ferry. The Browns will select fourth overall in place of the Texans.
