Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to exit Disney's board

Facebook COO Sherly Sandberg won't be seeking re-election on the Walt Disney Co. board

Walt Disney Co. said late Friday that Sheryl Sandberg and Jack Dorsey won't be re-nominated to its board, citing conflicts of interest as Facebook and Twitter push further into Disney's businesses. Meanwhile, Facebook is pushing its new Watch video platform, which also contains sports coverage along with several scripted comedy and drama series.

Twitter previous year signed a deal with the NFL for a 30-minute digital show that it aired five nights a week during the league's season.

The report said apart from its plans to create its own video streaming service in 2019 that is dedicated to movies and television shows, Disney also meant to debut an ESPN Plus streaming service this year. In September it announced it was allowing its deal with Netflix to lapse so that it could launch its own streaming movie service in 2019. Twitter and Facebook have also bid on and won the rights to stream live sporting events, a bedrock business for Disney and its ESPN network.

Sandberg and Dorsey's exit won't be the only change to Disney's board.

Major injury boost for Liverpool ahead of Manchester City game
Guardiola played down City's poor record at Anfield , where they have not won in years. "If nothing happens then yes, Mo is back". Liverpool could remain unbeaten in their opening 12 home matches of a Premier League season for the first time since 2011-12.

The changes will leave the Disney board with one fewer director than a year ago as the company pursues its proposed $52.4 billion acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox Inc. "Mr. Matschullat and Mr. Smith will be departing pursuant to Company policies that limit Board service to 15 years and set the retirement age at 74, respectively", the spokesman wrote. The entertainment giant named two members to its board in December, tapping CEOs from the software and biotech industries.

The two vacancies will be filled by Safra Catz, Oracle Corp.'s co-chief executive, and Illumina Inc.

CEO Bob Igler will continue to serve as chairman of the board.
