Chelsea Manning Files for Maryland US Senate Seat

Chelsea Manning, the transgender soldier who was convicted of giving classified information to WikiLeaks, has filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission for a U.S. Senate bid in Maryland.

Keeping an eye on will keep running against Sen.

The Democratic Senate incumbent is Ben Cardin, who was first elected in 2006 and is the senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Manning was released from a Kansas military prison last year, after serving seven years of the 35-year sentence she was given. Former President Barack Obama commuted her sentence in January 2017.

Keeping an eye on has been dynamic in pushing for LGBT and different causes since being discharged not long ago. Her lawyers at the American Civil Liberties Union said that Manning served more time behind bars than any other whistleblower in US history and under hard conditions.

Blanca Blanco wore red to the Golden Globes and she's explained why
Jones said many Americans are concerned about growing hatred and intolerance and Winfrey could bring a "values-based front for inclusion and tolerance" to the country.

In 2013, the intelligence analyst - then known as Bradley Edward Manning - was convicted by court martial of violations of the Espionage Act.

She is at least the fourth candidate lined up to unseat Cardin, according to state election records, but by far the most well known. Paul Sarbanes, according to the Baltimore Sun. Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat who won the race to replace former Sen.

Cardin's campaign had about $2 million on hand as of September 30, according to federal campaign finance records. Manning did not immediately return CNN's request for comment Saturday. Her candidacy would undoubtedly bring attention, both in Maryland and around the nation, to transgender rights and the rise of the security state. "We need to actually take the reins of government and fix our institutions".

Maryland's primary election will be held June 26.
