Trump cancels Britain trip, blames Obama for London embassy deal

However, Mr Trump blamed former president Mr Obama's administration for selling "perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for peanuts".

The decision to relocate the embassy was also taken by the administration of George Bush Jr in 2007, not during the Obama era, as asserted by Trump.

The US embassy in London has released a statement correcting President Donald Trump on the price tag of its relocation after he said it claimed it was a "bad deal".

"Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!" the US president added.

The trip's cancellation is a further blow to relations between the close allies.

However, the opponents threatening of mass protests on Trump enters the country, is being cited as a major reason behind the cancellation of the latter's plan.

May's spokesman told reporters Trump was welcome in London and that the invitation to visit had been accepted, although no date agreed.

Prime Minister Theresa May was the first foreign leader to visit Trump after his inauguration in January previous year, and they were filmed emerging from the White House holding hands. He said the opening of the embassy was a matter for the United States government.

The "strong and deep" partnership between Britain and the USA "will endure" despite Mr Trump's cancellation, a spokesman added.

Lawsuit Accuses Ford of Diesel Cheating Scandal
Those accusations have resulted in a lawsuit being filed by the law firm Hagens Berman on behalf of Super Duty owners. The software was allegedly developed and supplied to Ford by Bosch.

Some British lawmakers questioned whether Trump would be welcome in London because of previous tweets and criticism of Muslims and his sniping at London Mayor Sadiq Khan in the aftermath of a terror attack in that city past year.

The exchange prompted further calls to dump the visit.

"It seems he's finally got that message". But Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson blamed Khan and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn for discouraging the USA leader from coming.

"We will not allow US-UK relations to be endangered by some puffed-up, pompous popinjay in City Hall", Johnson tweeted. In December, Ambassador Woody Johnson said he was looking forward to welcoming the president when he visited.

The American flag was this month removed from Grosvenor Square where the United States embassy has been based since 1938 with the area known as "Little America" during World War Two, when the square also housed the military headquarters of General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

On Friday night, a spokesman for the US embassy said: "The US chancery in Grosvenor Square had aged beyond its ability to be improved to current security and life safety standards without extensive investment in infrastructure that would require appropriated dollars".

"We are strongly committed in the special relationship between our two countries and we are confident the new embassy will provide the necessary platform to continue our cooperation".

Labour lawmaker David Lammy, who had vowed to lead a protest against Trump if he visited, said the USA president was "too scared of us Londoners, who don't want him darkening our door".
