Hawaii Senator: Fake missile alert was based on 'human error'

State and county emergency officials confirm, "There is no threat of missile launch at this time".

The US military's pacific command said that there was no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard said the alert was a false alarm.

The false alert was sent about 8 a.m. and confirmed to be sent in error within about 15 minutes. There is no ballistic missile inbound to Hawaii.

According to reports emerging on social media, some people even tried to seek shelter from the "incoming missile" in storm drains.

"It was a false alarm based on a human error", Schatz tweeted.
