Official Deontay Wilder to defend WBC title against Luis Ortiz

Deontay Wilder's world title defence against Luis Ortiz has been confirmed for NY on March 3.

The event is part of Premier Boxing Champions.

Ortiz will be hoping to put behind a turbulent few months behind and get the wheels in motion back in his career with a title opportunity against Wilder.

The move comes amid reports that rival unbeaten champions Anthony Joshua of Britain and Joseph Parker of New Zealand are in final talks to fight in March and could set the stage for the winners to meet for an undisputed crown later this year.

Although the banned diuretics can be used as masking agents for performance-enhancing drugs, Ortiz and his team stood firm in claiming the root cause was his prescription medication for high blood pressure.

He and Ortiz were initially supposed to fight on that card, but the Cuban was scratched because of a positive drug test.

Wilder - the 32-year-old Tuscaloosa native - then fought Bermane Stiverne on November 4 in Brooklyn, scoring a first-round knockout. "Deontay's long-awaited bout with Ortiz is sure to be one of 2018's best matchups". "I want Joshua. Joshua come and see me baby". It remains the only bout in which Wilder has gone the distance as a broken right hand kept him from recording a knockout.
