Conte confirms Chelsea have been eager to signal Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk insists the £75m price tag is a big compliment to his hard work and does not make him nervous

Van Dijk made his Liverpool debut in their FA Cup victory against Everton last Friday.

But the 26-year-old says the chance to join the Reds and play under manager Jurgen Klopp was irresistible.

The Dutch global, though, has had to bat away rumors that the money paid for him could weigh heavy on his shoulders now that the adrenaline rush of making his Liverpool bow is over - comments Van Dijk has been quick to dismiss.

He added: "It doesn't make me nervous, it's a big compliment to myself for the hard work I've put in so far, that Liverpool are willing to pay that much money".

"You can see yourself that the atmosphere at every home game is incredible".

I think as a player you would love to have a manager who does that.

It could have been very different, with Conte admitting he was keen to take the centre back - but it is understood the west London club would only have paid a full £25m less than Liverpool shelled out.

He could make his Premier League debut for the Reds when they host leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

The Netherlands worldwide moved to the Anfield outfit in a club record £75m deal from Southampton earlier in the January transfer window.

Van Dijk became the world's most expensive defender earlier this month following his long-awaited move from Southampton.

Do you think the Dutchman made the correct decision?

Despite Chelsea's failure to secure Van Dijk, their defensive record has still been impressive this season and they have conceded the second least goals of any team in the top flight.
