C40 Successfully Launches Cartosat-2 Series Satellite

The 28 global customer satellites are being launched as part of the commercial arrangements between Antrix Corporation Limited (Antrix), a Government of India company under Department of Space (DOS), the commercial arm of Isro and the worldwide customers.

India's space agency on Friday successfully placed into orbits 31 satellites using a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in the 42nd flight of the workhorse rocket after an unusual PSLV mission failure last August.

The PSLV-C40 successfully launched three satellites of India, besides 20 customer ones into designated orbit with textbook precision from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Shar, Sriharikota in SPSR Nellore district on Friday.

He told mediapersons after the successful launch of PSLV-C40/Cartosat-2 series mission that the satellites included nine student ones made by some universities while hinting that they could not be counted in Isro's account. "This success in the New Year will bring benefits of the country's rapid strides in space technology to our citizens, farmers, fishermen etc", tweeted Narendra Modi, India's Prime Minister.

Trump Gives Painfully Transparent Excuse to Avoid London Trip
Supporters of Trump though said his refusal to visit London was a shame and reflected badly on the British public. But Mr Khan said the United States president's visit would have been met with "mass peaceful protests ".

The final 28-hour countdown for the launch of 31 satellites began on Thursday at 5.29 a.m.

"PSLV-C40 is a highly sophisticated surveillance tool to keep an eye on Indian borders and will help the government track progress of infrastructure projects", science writer Pallava Bagla, the co-author of Reaching For The Stars: India's Journey To Mars, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

The flight on Friday is the first since a rare mission failure on August 31 past year when a PSLV rocket did not release a protective heat shield that cocoons a rocket's satellite payloads from the high temperatures during the journey into space. With the successful launch, including 28 satellites from foreign countries, ISRO put behind a rare failure it encountered four months ago. In February 2017, ISRO set a world record for sending 104 satellites on a single rocket. The space agency is also gearing up for launching its second unmanned mission to the moon, Chandrayaan 2, in March.
