Sensex, Nifty End in Green After Falling Following SC Judges Press Conference

The broader NSE Nifty closed 0.28 per cent higher at 10,681.25, while the benchmark BSE Sensex ended up 0.26 per cent at 34,592.39.

The key indices - which opened at fresh levels on Friday - had slipped into the negative territory during the mid-afternoon session due to a sudden sell-off following a public attack on the Chief Justice of India by four senior colleagues, said market observers.

The Sensex hit an intraday high of 34,638.42 and a low of 34,342.16.

Notable losers were TCS 1.27 per cent, Bharti Airtel 0.82 per cent and Wipro 0.45 per cent.

Major gainers were ICICI Bank 1.26 per cent, Maruti 1.25 per cent, Reliance 1.16 per cent, L&T 0.69 per cent and HDFC 0.58 per cent.

At 3:30 pm: The Indian equity indices gained lost ground after falling following the Supreme Court judges press conference.

TCS shares fell 2 per cent intraday after the company had yesterday reported 3.6 per cent fall in net profit for the December quarter.

As per provisional data, domestic institutional investors had bought shares worth Rs 770.02 crore, while FIIs sold equities to the tune of Rs 623.63 crore yesterday.

Despite opening on a positive note, the stock failed to hold on the momentum and lost 1.59 per cent to Rs 2,744 as the trade progressed on BSE.
