No Official Confirmation From Pakistan on Suspension of Cooperation

As US freezes aid country dismisses economic fears- for now

During a speech at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad (ISSI) on Tuesday, Khan blasted the United States for using Pakistan as a "scapegoat" for its own military failures in neighboring country Afghanistan despite sinking billions of dollars into the conflict.

Welcoming the participants, the Foreign Minister stated that the briefing had been arranged to inform the diplomatic corps about the massive counter-terrorism efforts that Pakistan had undertaken in the last 16 years, more so the developments in the last 4 years. He said these attacks must stop.

"We have been the victim of terrorist attacks and how can we tolerate the presence of militants on our soil", he said. "Security funding and pending deliveries will be frozen, but not cancelled or reprogrammed at this time".

Dr Faisal said Pakistan had been supporting the United States by all means for last 16 years and continuation of that relationship was critical for regional peace.

Mohammad, imprisoned since 2009, is also known as the father-in-law of Mullah Fazlullah, the leader of the Pakistani Taliban who is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan.

But statements from senior US officials indicate that despite these limitations, the administration is serious in its stance that Pakistan needs to change its behavior.

Now, a group called Refuse Facism ATL says it is organizing a "Take a Knee" protest against the President outside of the stadium. Trump arrived in metro Atlanta around 6 p.m.to take in the all-Southeastern Conference matchup between the two powerhouses.

Pakistan issued a statement on Friday that said, "We are engaged with the US Administration on the issue of security cooperation and await further details".

The current U.S. -Pakistan feud first kicked off after Trump first took office, when he called out Islamabad in August 2017 during the announced of a new strategy for Afghanistan that called for an increase in troop levels, saying Washington could "no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe havens for terrorist organizations".

Last week, in a meeting chaired by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in capital Islamabad, it was decided that the validity of the Afghan refugees' residency documents, called Proof of Registration cards, would only be extended for 30 days - after which they would have to return to their home country.

"We stand ready to work with Pakistan in combating all terrorists without distinction, and we hope to be able to renew and deepen our bilateral security relationship when Pakistan demonstrates its willingness to aggressively confront the Taliban network, the Haqqani Network, and other terrorist and military groups that operate from its territory", Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Steve Goldstein told reporters on Tuesday. "The specific individual things we're doing are best handled in private, to ensure that we can be most productive - and that's what we're working now".

On Friday, Defense Secretary James Mattis said the USA has "had disagreements, strong disagreements on some issues, and we're working those".
