Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav arrives at the special CBI court in Ranchi from Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi

President and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, now lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda jail, was produced before three special courts of the CBI on Wednesday, in connection with the Rs 1,000-crore fodder scam cases.

According to The Indian Express, Madan Yadav and Laxman Mahto, who have served as Lalu's cooks in the past, were sent to jail in an apparent false case. He was also found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act. "They were sent to judicial custody€¦ The police had not sought any warrant from the court €" we were not even communicated about the surrender either by the counsel for the accused or the court". The SDM also said that he had never spoken to the CBI judge.

Lalu Prasad was the Chief Minister of the state from 1990 to 1997.

Prasad is lodged in Birsa Munda jail after being convicted last month in the second case of the fodder scam linked to illegal withdrawal of money from Deoghar treasury.

Congress defends Siddaramaiah on attack against RSS
Siddaramaiah had on Wednesday said that the BJP, RSS and the Bajrang Dal had terrorists in their organisations, a charge rubbished by the BJP.

"If the court orders me, I am more than willing to go to jail for Lalu Prasad".

The other transporters/suppliers punished were Sunil Kumar Sinha (three-and-a-half years in prison and Rs 5 lakh fine), Raja Ram Joshi (three-and-a-half years jail and Rs 5 lakh penalty), Gopinath Das (seven years jail and Rs 10 lakh fine), Sanjay Agarwal (seven years jail and Rs 10 lakh fine), Jyoti Kumar Jha (seven years jail and Rs 10 lakh fine) and Sunil Gandhi (seven years jail and Rs 10 lakh fine).

The court of special CBI judge Shivpal Singh had on January 3 issued "contempt of court" notices to Tiwary and RJD leaders, including Prasad's younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Shivanand Tiwari and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, for allegedly making unwarranted comments against the judgment. Then, the court said that that is why it has recommended their names for Open Jail in Hazaribagh. The case relates to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 356.2 million from the Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s when he was the chief minister of undivided Bihar.
