CES 2018: Intel CEO Vows To Fix Meltdown And Spectre Issues

Intel Addresses the Elephant in the Room
CEO starts the Intel briefing the right way

The QuTech team - which received US$50 million from Intel in 2015, and separately partners with Microsoft on its topological quantum effort - is now testing the 17-qubit test chip it received from Intel in October. The chip is named after a chain of lakes in Alaska, a nod to the extreme cold temperatures and the entangled state that quantum bits (or "qubits") require to function. While one chip deals with neuromorphic computing, the second one is all about quantum computing. Achieving a 49-qubit test chip is an important milestone because it will allow researchers to assess and improve error correction techniques and simulate computational problems. "It is a step toward quantum supremacy - a point at which quantum computers far and away surpass the world's best supercomputers", he said.

"We expect to solve key technical challenges that must be overcome to move quantum computing forward", Krzanich added.

Intel has been working with Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands to build full quantum computing systems, he said. Loihi put training and inference onto a single chip, which Intel officials say will make machine learning more energy-efficient. Loihi, an Intel chip created to simulate a brain, is one of those chips that Krzanich mentioned as an example.

The incredible technology developed by Intel can possible people immersion inside a TV, helping them, have a different entertainment experience.

The rest of his speech focused on innovation and the not-so-distant future of data-driven technology.

Krzanich also added that the firm's autonomous vehicle efforts are being expanded into China following the inking of a partnership with SAIC Motor, a Chinese automaker.

Gov. Scott praises reversal of plans for offshore drilling in Florida
Susan Glickman, Florida director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, said things looked a little too orchestrated when U.S. The move to exempt Florida form the new drilling plan came Tuesday. "I am opposed to seismic testing off of SC shore", he said.

To date, he said, Intel has seen no sign that anyone has stolen data by exploiting the two vulnerabilities, known as Meltdown and Spectre. So, powered by enormous amounts of data from scores of high definition cameras and the power of computing that can make sense of all this data real-time, Intel is confident that it will change the way movies are made.

Data "is the unseen driving force behind the next great wave of the technology revolution" the kind that "we see once or twice in a century, " he told a packed audience at the 5,000-seat Park Theater inside the Monte Carlo.

Similar announcements came from Levi & Korsinky, Block & Leviton and Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, with the firms also pointing to reports that Intel chief executive Brian Krzanich sold Intel stock in November months after the company was informed of the defect by Google. Data is going to redefine how we experience life.

"The collaboration of so many companies (to mitigate the threat) is truly remarkable", Krzanich said.

He also demonstrated the Volocopter, a fully electric, vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed for passenger transport.

Krzanich also discussed Intel's role as technology partner for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games, saying it would provide the largest ever VR experience across a total of 30 events both live and on-demand using its Intel True VR solution.
