Arsene Wenger opens up on Theo Walcott transfer to Everton

Everton to make £20 million January bid for Theo Walcott after forward's latest Arsenal snub

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Everton are in talks with Arsenal's Theo Walcott over a possible move.

Walcott's contract runs until 2019 and the Gunners will not consider a loan move, while the attacker is not prepared to move overseas despite reported interest from AC Milan.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Everton were stepping up their interest in Lille defender Adama Soumaoro, and Sky Sports now claim that the Toffees are still considering a move.

Another Gunners forward who could leave this month is Alexis Sanchez, a target for Manchester City.

Allardyce, who has already signed striker Cenk Tosun from Besitkas for £27m in January, has cited Walcott's "pace", "experience" and "crossing ability" as attributes the England worldwide would offer.

Health secretary apologises as thousands of non-urgent operations postponed

Arsenal are at Bournemouth on Sunday but may again be without Mesut Ozil, who sat out the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg with a knee injury and is rated "50-50" by Wenger to feature at the Vitality Stadium. TW not agitating & club not rushing but if Giroud+Welbeck prove fitness should happen.

Walcott arrived at Arsenal in January 2006 - for £5m rising to about £12.5m - and has scored 108 goals in 396 appearances, with eight goals in 47 games for England.

Allardyce's arrival at Everton at the end of November had an immediate impact as they played their way away from the relegation zone but their progress has stalled.

"I don't get optimistic otherwise I get disappointed so we will wait and see", Allardyce said. "We know the market is hard, but we are working on that".

"This transfer market at the moment is very hard". It just feels like we are losing control.
