60 firefighters tackle huge blaze at Nottingham train station

"At present the station is closed and no train services are calling at Nottingham".

The fire and rescue service said around 10 fire engines and around 50 firefighters were responding to the blaze, which started in the concourse area before spreading to the roof.

Fifty firefighters are tackling the blaze, which broke out in the main concourse of the station.

John Mills, Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service manager, said the fire is "more about complexity rather than size" because it burned continuously through voids, making it incredibly hard for firefighters to find.

A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service has said the scene was evacuated and no casualties were reported.

"Passengers are advised to check www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk for the latest travel information".

Merkel faces crunch-time redux in search for next government

"No trains will be stopping at the station until further notice".

Furthermore, there have been road closures around the station with Notts Police tweeting: 'Station St, Carrington St & Queen's Rd are closed use to a fire at #Nottingham Train Station.

"Our current advice to customers is not to travel to or from Nottingham station this morning".

The evacuated station is a hub of the East Midlands rail network and it has meant many services have been cut short or stranded on certain sections of the track.

"We expect trains to be disrupted on all routes through Nottingham for the whole of Friday 12 January", said East Midlands Trains, which is the main operator at the station. "But it is quite a significant incident we're dealing with this morning".
