Kelly Clarkson Jokes 'Wine Is Necessary' When Raising Four Kids!

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson is in the middle of a social media debate over how she says she disciplines her kids - the same way her parents disciplined her, with a spanking.

"I'm not above a spanking which people aren't necessarily into", Clarkson told 98.9 the Buzz in Rochester during a radio interview.

Clarkson is also mom to 1-year-old Remington.

"I don't mean hitting her hard", the former "American Idol" champ added.

But Clarkson understands that her view is not shared by everyone.

The Texas-born star acknowledged that espousing spanking can be "a trick thing" because some people think it's wrong to discipline a child that way.

Axovant Sciences Ltd. (AXON) Surges to All-Time Low, Is Now Worst Performer

"I warn her. I'm like, 'Hi, I'm going to spank you on your bottom if you don't stop right now". Like, this is ridiculous.' The 'Voice' coach is aware the topic is controversial and admits her method of discipline can be "tricky" when she's away from her home. "The 'Love So Soft" singer recently admitted she finds raising her kids to be "challenging" and joked alcohol helps her through the day.

The fact that Clarkson continues to parent her way and often delivers surprising honesty only endears her more to fans.

She added that spanking was part of her childhood and that her mom would even give the principal of her school permission to spank her.

It all started when she got to meet stars like Meryl Streep, Steve Carell, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers at the Golden Globes on Sunday, and gushed about those encounters on her new web series, Minute + a Glass of Wine.
