Michael Flynn said Russian Federation sanctions would be 'ripped up'

Michael Flynn

As President Donald Trump delivered his inaugural address, incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn texted his former business colleague about a plan to join Russian Federation and build nuclear reactors in the Middle East: The project was "good to go", he told them, according to a summary of a whistleblower's account provided by a lawmaker.

Mr Copson explained that Flynn was making sure that sanctions were going to be "ripped up" as one of the first orders of business and this would allow money to start flowing to the project.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Wednesday the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top national-security officials.

The Trump administration did not roll back the sanctions. But the nuclear project that Flynn and his business associate had worked on together was stymied by USA financial sanctions on Russian Federation.

On Inauguration Day, Trump advisor Michael Flynn assured former business partners that nuclear projects requiring the lifting of sanctions against Russian Federation were "good to go", senior House Democrat said in a letter released Wednesday. Cummings asked Gowdy to meet with the whistleblower and to subpoena White House officials and figures connected to the project, a proposal to build nuclear power plans across the Middle East.

However, Donald Gross, a lawyer for ACU Strategic Partners, denied that there was any contact between his company and Flynn at any point while Flynn was working for Trump.

But reports over the last few months have suggested that Flynn continued to promote the project after the election, and even after he had been sworn in as national security adviser.

Gowdy said he was referring the matter to the House Intel Committee, on which Gowdy sits. Copson allegedly responded, "I couldn't be better". He suggested the House Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russia's role in the 2016 USA election, take up the matter. "I'll tell you what I've done".

"When the whistle-blower asked why the United States needed to be involved in a Middle East nuclear project, Mr Copson explained that the USA would provide military support to "defend these installations", the letter said. The memo was intended for Trump to sign, though there's no indication the President saw it, the Journal reported.

However, Galley said Philip Hammond's decision to scrap stamp duty for first time buyers up to £300,000 could boost the market. HMRC data showed property transactions totalled 105,260 in October - the highest level since March 2016 .

"You told Fox News that you wanted to hear "whatever he has" because '[t] alking to witnesses is usually a good thing, '" Cummings said. The whistle-blower, Mr. Cummings said, is willing to meet with Mr. Gowdy if he agrees to protect the person's identity.

Flynn had been a paid consultant for the venture before he joined the Trump campaign a year ago.

The whistleblower also said that Copson intimated that Flynn would ensure that US financial sanctions hobbling the nuclear project were going to be "ripped up", allowing investment money to start flowing into the project. "I couldn't be better".

Mr Copson had allegedly shown the Flynn text message to the source, according to the congressman.

Alex Copson, the managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, received texts from Flynn during Trump's inauguration January 20 saying the deal was "good to go", according to Cummings.

After getting the texts, Copson said, "Mike has been putting everything in place for us", and, "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", Cummings said, quoting the witness.

Earlier this year, various plans to lift the Russian Federation sanctions circulated through the Trump administration, but Mr. Trump ultimately decided not to repeal the measures. A document filed in Flynn's case mentioned his failure to comply with foreign lobbying disclosure laws related to his work for Turkey, but his charging document didn't mention that work. Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.

Cummings responded to Gowdy's letter with a letter Thursday that called Gowdy's refusal to investigate the whistleblower's claims "astonishing". Mr Cummings wrote that Mr Mueller's team asked lawmakers to hold off on a public release of this information until certain investigative steps were taken.
