Demon's Souls online servers to shut down in February 2018

The Souls game that kickstarted it all, Demon's Souls, will see its online services shut down in Japan this coming February, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan. You can of course still play the game, but online features such as cooperation and invasion, in-game messaging, player death locations and World Tendency will no longer be available after February.

If you're unfamiliar with the perks of playing online, that means no more cooperative and PvP multiplayer, as well as an end to rankings, messages, bloodstains, and wandering phantoms. "It's with mixed emotions we say goodbye to the service", it said on its website.

Everton Player Mercilessly Trolled For Shocking Performance Against Southampton
Saints will therefore hope injury doubt Mario Lemina, who has missed the last three games with an ankle problem, is passed fit. The Toffees conceded 24 goals in their opening 12 Premier League games this season, a figure exceeded only by West Ham (25).

The Sony PlayStation 3 game was first released in Japan in February 2009. Demon's Souls was the first game that really brought From Software into the public eye. Players soon realised that FromSoftware hadn't so much made a fantasy RPG as reinvented the genre, to the extent that Demon's Souls' framework lies beneath the subsequent Dark Souls trilogy and even Bloodborne. The player must find a way to put the Old One, the ancient creature that created the mist, back to sleep, or the mist will spread from Boletaria and enshroud the world.

Fortunately, there's been no word from Atlus in the west about shutting down the Demon's Souls online service here, so if you still have yet to enjoy the game here, you've got plenty of time. Players could even make the game harder or easier by changing the "world tendency" between a safe, "white" world and a risky "black" world.
